Life of a Hotel Management Student (Amity University, Noida) - THOUGHTS OF ARPIT CHAUDHARY PRO_RAZE
3 February, 2019 7:28PM: Just a while ago I had made a post on the experience I had with having admission at Amity. It wasn't that briefly explained, I mean with the admission procedures and stuff but I just you know put up stuff I had faced like rejections during applying. Today as of now I am a student of Amity University, Noida. I am gonna be real with you, Hotel Management wasn't the first option I had on my mind. You should read my previous post if you have not. The main reason I am doing Hotel Management right now is because my father said and said it's good for the future opportunities, in fact I did not even researched about it. All I mainly knew is that in this course we get to know on how to cook and manage a hotel which really isn't the complete scene.
NOTE: THIS IS BASED ON AMITY, UNIVERSITY NOIDA ONLY AND NOT OTHER HOTEL MANAGEMENT INSTITUTES.
My first day of Amity Noida was 19th July 2018 which was the first day of Orientation. I reached my college by metro and the station I came to was Botanical Garden then I paid Rs. 100 to auto to get to the college, didn't knew Okhla Bird Sanctuary was nearer and costed Rs. 20 with sharing that time haha. I actually travel from Huda City Centre, Gurgaon to there. Thanks to the new Hauz Khas line which made the distance shorter. First day of Orientation was special for me, getting to know about the University guidelines and stuff, there were a lot of lectures and activities to see. The orientation and registration process lasts till 3 days.
I had a lot of things on my mind but during the first day the first main thing I came to know about was the formal dress code students has to follow on this course. Look as I said before, I was unaware about a lot of things, when I dreamed about the college life before I thought it was more like being in casuals but the very first day I got to know that we gotta be in formals, that was disappointing but I accepted it because it's not like school uniforms but more like white shirt, black pant and formal shoes one. As this is a professional course so we did look good, just ignore the fact that I am really skinny. Let's skip a head, I slowly tried knowing more about the college, met a lot of new people and talked to them to increase my college connections, I used to greet and smile to everyone. I knew groups will be made and change and it just goes on but I wanted to be open and friendly to everyone.
One thing I can say about the college life is that it's not really like we see in the movies but I am pretty sure Amity can get pretty close to that because of all the exposure, activities, happenings, atmosphere this college provides, we just need to use them nicely. This is something I thought of everytime. So I made friends, had connections with them on snapchat, instagram, whatsapp etc. Shared stories and started getting to know them. Also explored my campus places like the Acradia where you get to play pool, bowling, console games etc. the famous H block which was a dream for me to come at after reading all the stuff about it on Quora. H block has Dosa Plaza, Subway, Dominos, Wall Street, Cafe Coffee Day and much more.
If you have the money boy and by money I mean plenty of money, you can get the most out of this college. Not gonna lie one of the things I had on my mind before joining this college was to see all those cute and hot girls of Delhi NCR and the surroundings, hostelers. I mean why not? That's what I heard of by people saying you will get a lot of chicks, don't worry Arpit. Yea but it doesn't work like that. I am on Semester 2 and still single, yes I got multiple girls hinting to be my girlfriend but I just can't get into relationship yet.
You know it kind of feels like school when you have mandatory 75% attendance requirement to be able to sit during the exams, this is something many people complain about. They say attendance is the main issue about Amity. Well I will say it is quite a little tough to maintain but when you are paying fees of 1 lakh or around or upto 2 lakhs per semester, what's the point of not attending college and just bunking everytime? I know my parents money is precious and they have had difficulties paying fees on time. Damn don't wanna get personal. See sometimes attendance can be annoying but trust me with all the things that goes in the college, there is a lot to explore and opportunities to get exposed to, it's just bad me that I still don't utilize alot of it. Many times I think that college is the best year of your life and you gotta make the most out of it, I want to make the most out of it.
A Hotel Management student's life is different than the other students in quite various ways, first of all it's the dress code which is Formal but we do see seniors being in casuals most of the time, I heard the strictness is for first years mainly so we may get to wear more casuals later. Second thing is that we study way lesser than other course students, the syllabus we get honestly if I say is nothing when I compare it to my 12th class syllabus lol.
Things are basic, oh yea one more downside of studying at Amity is the vast number of subjects we have to study but then again it's not a problem they are easy. We have like 11 subjects and additional subjects included in first year were EVS (good and easy), Behavioral Science, French language (obviously good to learn a new language), Applied Nutrition, Economics and well subjects like this. Even if we get 11 subjects to study on, they are not lengthy or feel like burden if you are an average student. Many people have said to me that Hotel Management is a practical based subject so it doesn't really matter if you score 9 SGPA or 6.5 SGPA.
You need skills more than theoretical knowledge and by that I more mean that having concepts clear of Hotel Management and then applying skills on it. We got Food Production labs and multiple for different years and batches, for bakery and cooking etc. We got restaurant for service and practicals, housekeeping labs, front office labs and things required to enhance our Hotel Management skills. If I talk about the faculty, the main ones we have are good and I have seen some of the best faculty of my life here at Amity and one of them is Manish Sharma who teaches Front Office. He is just awesome then there is our R K Bhatt Sir whose humor always gets me and lots of respect for me, he is funny and very professional. Some faculty are useless but I don't care.
We have had a lot of fests in between like the Freshers celebration, concerts of artists like Raftaar, Shahid Mallya, Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra also visited our campus for promotion of their movie, I also volunteered in multiple conferences and witnessed great people on their field during those conferences. I feel like semester 1 passed quick but if I look at my memories i mean my photos and think deeply, I had a lot of great moments. I can't imagine how the life is in the government colleges of India like the IHM, IIM, IIT but I love my college. I have wrote a lot I think, I can put up thousand more words on this but this is all I wanna say right now. I am happy and I hope if someone reads this in the future, they have a good life too! I will try to update and give time to this blog more often,
