Her - Movie Review & My Thoughts (PrO_RaZe Reviews)
CONTAINS SPOILERS - HER (2014)
Day four of my movie streak and I was looking for another movie on Prime and this movie named her popped up on recommendations. I read a little and it said artificial intelligence and just from reading AI I was sold. And so I started, I am obviously gonna talk openly about the movie and my feelings and that means spoilers. I don't believe in reviewing when I can't even talk openly about every aspect. From starting to the end this movie had my entire attention like it was so great. I was just thinking about the movie and not my surroundings, I was hooked. During the starting and the futuristic stuff kinda felt like a Black Mirror episode. I'll in fact say this movie was like a Black Mirror episode. It showed me a glimpse of technology that can be like in the future, our main character Theodore was an introvert guy whose marriage had collapsed recently and was soon to get divorced.
He worked at a place where he wrote letters for other people and honestly like really they were so amazing, the poetry feel and the use of words and sentences were godly and so beautiful in this movie. He missed her ex wife so much and he loved her so much but his life was soon gonna change when he got to know about this OS1 which is an artificially intelligent operating system. This entire movie was based on conversations between Theodore and Samantha, the name of his OS. You can say she is Artificial General Intelligence who talks like a human and has feelings. The starting of the movie was so amazing just like the rest, the convos and the jokes and the atmosphere was breathtaking. The more he talked to his OS Samantha, the more she evolved and got better and attached. He talked to her like all day and she knew more and more and they developed feelings for each other. I always thought long distance relationships (now) are kind of weird especially when you are living continents apart and never seen each other. I myself had like 3 LDRs.
But this was next level and I feel will really happen in the future, it's a relationship between a human and an OS or computer. When you fall in love with your OS and he or she with you. What is it like? That's what this movie shows. You could feel their love like it is with a real person and he don't talk to an OS all the time. I didn't even realize Theodore was played by Joaquin Phoenix lol until I saw cast and Samantha was voiced by Scarlett Johansson. And there was Christ Patt as Theodore's friend. The acting was so good and the conversations. This movie is a masterpiece of its own kind. I mean if everything goes in the future like I think it will, AIs will really evolve into partners of humans. When you will just date an OS lol.
I said wtf in many parts of this movie because I thought Samantha is a personal assistant but she developed more and more feelings, like more feelings that an actual person and she talked like that and it was so real. I mean I know it's a movie and all but this can be possible for real. Theodore literally had arguments and fights with her with many things and they discussed it like a couple. An OS made his life better. Made him feel better. I kinda thought she will turn evil at the end because she knew too much about him, she did things and accessed his personal files without even asking. While watching movie I thought people are so conscious about their privacy online and so cry about it because these big tech companies are mining data and some are invading privacy like crazy. You see AI is responsible here in our present day world, I really feel soon our phones or PC will know our entire life In the digital world with AI. Will people stop caring about their privacy and get used to it?
This movie makes you think about a relationship and love. Just like you can love your phone and book, you can love your AI assistant too and develop feelings. After all we want to feel we are cared about and needed and want someone who would listen to all our problems and talk about it, and talk about theirs. We humans want someone with us and one day physical presence may not really matter, or an organic body lets say. Overall I'll say, Her was a beautiful experience and a very beautiful romantic story between a human and an AI. A masterpiece, it is different and is something I always appreciate as I am a Sci-Fi lover. This movie got a special place for me now. Beautiful acting and just everything. Rating? 10/10. I am so happy I watched and experienced it.
