Pollution of Delhi NCR - Diwali After Effects

Pollution of Delhi NCR - Diwali After Effects

Wow I can't believe finally I am going to write a blog post on a very different topic now, other than life or my internet things. It's finally November now and the winter is almost here. Delhi is the capital of the country I live in, India and I live in Gurgaon which is part of Delhi NCR and pollution is a very major case here, and it's every year's thing now that after Diwali the air quality gets extremely hazardous, so bad that in Delhi it has been declared emergency and schools are closed till 5 November. I am not an environmental expert but the condition that we are having in our country regarding pollution is very critical. Every year during Diwali time millions of crackers are burst causing pollution contributing to the extremely bad air quality.

Diwali is the biggest festival of India and it has it's own religious values you know and when people say that do not burst crackers this Diwali then many people get offended saying that we won't stop our tradition no matter what happens but personally I think that yeah you are slowly killing yourself and everyone around you. I won't say only Diwali is the main reason here, farmers in Haryana and Punjab burn very large amount of crops during this time which also contributes to pollution, then all the factories and industrial areas, all the automobiles and other vehicles. Diwali wasn't the festival of bursting crackers all the time, it was a festival of family's and loved ones gathering together spreading joy. You know lighting their homes with diyas, making beautiful rangolis, decorating their homes, giving and receiving gifts, spreading joy, sweets and much more!

This year 2019 according to many statistics it has been revealed that the bursting of crackers has been lower compared to the past 3 years during Diwali time which is good but the condition of Delhi NCR is very critical and it's sad that even after so many awareness, government putting ban on bursting crackers and so many other things people are still not waking up. Yes the Supreme Court has put ban on bursting of crackers and even selling them but still nothing really changed this time. I saw hashtags trending on twitter saying #CrackersWaliDiwali where people were promoting that people SHOULD burst crackers this Diwali and just ignore everything, our climate and pollution situation because they don't care. These people won't change.

But I liked that many people were actually spreading awareness on social medias including my friends on celebrating this Diwali as a clean Diwali. Memes are a great trend these days to create awareness and as I am a media student I am doing my part too. The damage has been done and now it's after effects are on it's peak. People posting pictures of really smoggy polluted skies on their stories of Delhi NCR. CM Arvind Kejriwal calls Delhi a 'gas chamber' and the government schools of Delhi has bought over 5 million masks for the school children which is a good thing but seriously this will happen every year and it will get even worse if people don't bring change in themselves.
